MISUSE 04: Present layered images upon a represented layered physical screen. In Revit, the digital model is presented as a dynamic projection or a set of static, pseudo-orthographic views. Misuse 04 works against the tool by combining representational, orthographic media and presentational, post-orthographic media in order to think through automation, scalelessness, and notational deletion.
1- The Architecture of Error:
- Read HUGHES_The Architecture of Error-Intro.
- Define precision and error.
1- Constructional Performances:
- Decide what to present as image and what to represent as physical.
- Decide what to cut, suppress, hide, reveal, and articulate.
- Sequence and animate the constructional images.
- Narrate the performance verbally, textually, or both.
- Diagram and document the performance.
FRIDAY 11.08_THE DETAIL, THE SECTIONS, THE APPARATUS, THE READING, THE FAMILIES (Due Wednesday 11.13)
Next Monday, we do not have class, but it does mark the two week countdown until the final review. Below is what should be complete for next Wednesday:
1- DETAIL: A detail showing the transition between first avenue and the addition. Completed in model and detail lines. It should show material connections and gaps. (Misuse 02)
2- SECTIONS/CONTEXT: At least three (3) section cuts through First Avenue, the site, and the determined urban context. Completed in model lines. They should show curb cuts, building heights, and the interior spaces of First Avenue Night Club.
3- APPARATUS: An apparatus that is 90% complete.
4- READ: New! John May Everything is Already an Image. As before, select a passage for discussion.
5- FAMILIES: Model the families between two (2) of your sections on the buildable area of your site. Save the Revit files as 191113_Addition in your Box Folder
MONDAY 11.04_THE ARCHITECTURE OF ERROR DISCUSSION (Due Wednesday 11.06)
I am absent from class today. On your desk, you will find a reflection sheet to be filled out and underneath it, your grade from 1.0 The Four Misuses. Here is what you need to do in class today:
1- Select a passage from Francesca Hughes’ “The Architecture of Error” with your former partner. Discuss it with another pair (groups of four). Email me the passage your group selected by 5pm today.
2- Complete the reflection I set on your desk. It should contain answers from the discussion you had in class. It is due on Wednesday.
3- Transform your apparatus (work in the shop). I should see physical interventions on Wednesday. Also bring a diagram of how your apparatus will work as well as thumbnail sketches of how your final performance will unfold (completed individually).
4- I will meet with half of you on Wednesday and half of you on Friday. You will not know when you are meeting with me until 2pm on Wednesday.
