WEEK 09: The Translation

FRIDAY 10.25_FIRST AVENUE NIGHT CLUB (Due Monday 10.28)

For Monday 10,28, be prepared to discuss Ford_Details and “draw” three (3) sections through the site (or more) using model lines.

WEDNESDAY 10.23_WORKDAY

I will be absent from class today. Federico will take attendance at the beginning and end of class. Use the studio time to talk to one another. Look at each other’s details. Discuss the site.

MONDAY 10.21_THE TRANSLATION (Due Friday 10.25)

In class, we discussed the second performance, The Translation. The new site is behind the infamous First Avenue Night Club in Minneapolis, MN. Begin to explore the context of the site by addressing the following prompts:

1- Sociocutural Context:

• What are the historical events that took place at or near the site?
• What are the current events that take place at or near the site?
• What performances have occurred in the building?

2- Physical Context- Immediate:

• What materials make up the site?
• What urban conditions surround the site (buildings, streets, etc.)?

3- Physical Context- Broad:

• What are the conditions of the broader district the building sits in (i.e. the site is a part of an entertainment district)?

4- (At the very least) Assignment for Friday:

• Find a band who performed at First Avenue, find a song they played (on spotify), and write down the title…we are going to make a playlist
• Read Ford_Detail…again
• Set up your Revit File
  • Locate three section cuts that run in the northeast to southwest direction
  • Set up your work planes
  • Insert your three (3) details from last week into the file
